Rhys Ifans is often regarded as one of the most underrated actors in the industry. Despite his extensive involvement in numerous acclaimed films and television series, many of his fans believe he does not receive the recognition he deserves, which is a valid point.

He has excelled in every role he has taken on, whether it’s his memorable performance as Spike in the 1999 film Notting Hill, Xenophilius Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2010), Otto Hightower in House of the Dragon, or Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard in the Spider-Man franchise.

Regarding his role in Spider-Man, Ifans will not be reprising his character, Dr. Curt Connors, also known as The Lizard, from previous films. According to director Kelly Marcel, he will be taking on a new character in Venom: The Last Dance.

With that being clear let’s talk about his brother. For those unfamiliar with Rhys, he has a younger sibling named Llŷr Ifans, who is also an actor. Moreover, the two brothers have collaborated on a couple of films, including Twin Town.

Rhys Ifans and his brother Llŷr Ifans’ 1997 film Twin Town received mixed reviews when it came out. Rotten Tomatoes shows it has a 46% rating from 13 reviews, which points to lukewarm thoughts from critics.

Similarly, Roger Ebert, a well-known American film critic, gave it two stars out of four showing he wasn’t too impressed. On the flip side, William Thomas from Empire handed out 4 out of 5 stars. He liked how it didn’t try to sugar-coat its rough characters saying it’s “low-life and proud of it.”

Even though critics couldn’t agree, Twin Town has become more popular as time went on turning into a cult favorite. The movie’s harsh and real look at life in Swansea, Wales, plus its mix of dark humor and crime, struck a chord with many viewers.

As the years have gone by, people have started to think better of the film. New reviews call it a

“classic comedy” and a “legend of a film.”

Moreover, people still love the appeal of the Ifans brothers, with some asking for another movie saying,

“Still awaiting a sequel” and “Get that sequel!“

The movie’s Welsh flavor, including the brothers’ unique way of speaking, makes it even more likable over time. Twin Town remains an important part of Welsh film history.

Unlike Rhys, his younger brother has settled down in life

Rhys Ifans has a reputation for dating famous people and living an unpredictable life. His younger brother Llŷr, on the other hand, has chosen a different path. He chooses to settle down in his life with the girl of his dreams.

Llŷr got married to Lisa Gwilym, who works as a DJ for BBC Radio Cymru and hosts TV shows. They have been together for a long time. Moreover, Llŷr and Lisa live in Y Felinheli with their son.

Rhys and his brother’s family are close. For instance, in 2015, the Hot D actor went to Longleat Safari Park in the UK with Llŷr, Lisa, and their son Jacob. Even though Rhys’ personal life has its ups and downs, he stays close to his family and likes to hang out with his brother and nephew.

Furthermore, people often see Rhys out and about with his family when he’s not working. He shares these family moments with them. So, Rhys’ job as an actor puts him in the spotlight a lot, but Llŷr has decided to live a more private life. He prefers to focus on his family and stay out of the public eye.

In case you didn’t know, Rhys and Llŷr grew up in Ruthin

  1. Rhys and Llŷr Ifans’ mom, Beti-Wyn, worked nursery school teacher, whereas, their dad, Eirwyn Evans, was a primary school teacher.
  2. The brother duo’s cult classic film Twin Town has a documentary that explores its making, titled Shoot Out in Swansea: The Making of Twin Town (1997).
  3. Additionally, both brothers are fluent Welsh speakers and have a strong connection to their Welsh heritage, which has influenced their careers and projects.
