Dustin Milligan is a Canadian actor, writer, and producer, born on July 28, 1985, in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada.
He gained significant recognition for his portrayal of Ethan Ward in the teen drama 90210 (2008–2009).
Additionally, Milligan is well-known for his role as Ted Mullens in the critically acclaimed comedy Schitt’s Creek (2015–2020).
As of 2024, he stars as the lead in Netflix’s Christmas fantasy romantic comedy Hot Frosty.
With over twenty years in the entertainment industry, Milligan has built a substantial fan base eager to discuss his work.
Besides, his works. Milligan’s followers are particularly interested in his love life and other personal details typical of celebrity fandoms.
However, another intriguing topic among Milligan’s fans is his dental transformation over the years.
Dustin Milligan chose veneers over braces to fix his teeth gap as per fans’ theory.
Those who have followed Dustin Milligan’s career since day one have observed a notable change in his teeth.
The Schitt’s Creek star’s old projects have captured small teeth gaps. For instance, his character Trevor Eastman in 2006‘s film The Butterfly Effect 2 has it.
Similarly, in The Messengers, he has a similar dental condition. He has appeared as Bobby and is a friend of Kristen Stewart’s character Jees in the 2007 horror movie.
His fans have talked about it online and have mixed feelings about it. Like one has posted online,
“He NEEDS to get some; I can’t focus on the movies he’s in. His teeth bug me. And no, I am not saying everyone’s teeth need to be “perfect.” But Ah!”
Agreeing with it, another supported,
“I agree. He seemed like a little kid, an completely unprofessional on The Butterfly Effect 2, when supposedly he was supposed to be a grown, mature, working adult.”
The post further reads,
“And I couldn’t stand him in The Messenger, although I suppose the gap fit his dorky character… He seriously needs braces. And I am not saying he is a bad actor… just saying that it is hard to pay attention to his scenes with that big gap on the screen.”
However, some of his fans adored Milligan’s dental feature and expressed,
“I think the gap tooth is kind of cute and endearing.”
It seems Milligan himself wasn’t okay with the teeth gap, as he fixed it in the coming years.
Milligan’s followers first notice the difference after his work on 2008‘s series 90210. As one post read,
“The gap is gone, I think. Probably 90210 made him get his teeth fixed.”
Another wrote,
“On Supernatural, the gap is gone.”
With surprise, Milligan’s fans also shared,
“He’s in an episode of About a Girl, and the gap is gone.”
Although Milligan worked on his appearance, some who thought he looked cute with his teeth gap and didn’t like he fixed the gap by opting for veneers or lumineers wrote,
“I was just thinking how adorable it is. Plus, I hate when they don’t get braces and they have the gap fixed with veneers or “Lumineers,” because then it never looks natural at all. That’s really too bad.”
Supporting that point, one fan replied,
“I agree with you. Sometimes I think it comes out okay, but in his case, it doesn’t look natural at all.”
Now, Milligan hasn’t said anything about his teeth transformation. Also, there are no public appearances online that show him using braces.
So, his fans have concluded that the Hot Frosty star either went for veneers or lumineers for his dental treatments.
One fan shows a link between Milligan’s dental transformation and health issues with the actor’s past addiction.
Those who are intrigued by Dustin Milligan’s dental transformation have also gathered on Reddit.
When a Reddit post that dates back to 2019 asked the question if anyone else noticed changes in Milligan’s character Ted’s face and teeth, many were quick to comment on it.
Regarding Milligan’s face, many voted for the bronzer and said,
“They made him up with bronzer because he’d be coming home tanned from the Galapagos.”
However, for Schitt’s Creek actor’s teeth, there was another debate. While many acknowledged that Milligan had undergone some dental work, opinions varied on the specifics of the procedures and the reasons behind them.
To that, a fan mentioned all of Schitt’s Creek‘s cast and said,
“Probably because they’re Canadian, they don’t have those inhumanly white and straight teeth that American actors tend to have. So the difference was quite noticeable. Also, his teeth would look whiter with the bronzer on his face.”
Similarly, another fan stated,
“I too am so perplexed by this! His teeth looked so weird, and in the last scene, he barely opens his mouth… Maybe something happened to his teeth?”
Noting that point, anyone who has watched the eighth episode of the sixth season, titled, The Presidential Suite, would agree with this observation.

With all this buzz, one of the Redditors pointed out Milligan’s illness linked to his chronic use of marijuana.
Milligan himself shared about his health situation on his Instagram in 2021. It all happened on October 12, 2018, when he couldn’t stop throwing up.
The Canadian star’s situation was worse, and he went to the hospital. He was feeling immense pain and had puked more than 26 times. So, he was given morphine, but it didn’t work.
Following that, Milligan shared,
Netflix’s star further penned,
With this harsh experience, Milligan admitted to his fans being a weed addict and didn’t like who he was in the hospital bed.
So, Milligan stopped smoking the herbs and saw his life change. He also thanked his late dog, Darryl, for the recovery.
With these facts laid, Milligan’s fan linked his condition with bulimics and stated,
“What I’ve read about bulimics they have jacked up teeth from barfing constantly, the bile from the stomach eroding the surface little by little.”
The Redditor then concluded,
“So maybe his teeth got messed up from throwing up so much and the veneers were a way to fix it.”
With such details painted, many thanked him/her for the update.
“OMG FINALLY AN ANSWSER! THANK YOU KIND SIR/MA’AM.”
However, one of the fans didn’t agree with the theory and opposed it.
“That’s cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. It’s typically a short-term condition, unlike bulimia. Vomiting 26 times is vastly different from being perpetually bulimic and throwing up regularly. Stomach acids do erode teeth enamel, but I don’t know how that would make your teeth “jacked up”.”
The arguer further brought up his/her own experience in the debate, saying,
“Also, that wouldn’t happen after 26 bouts of vomiting. Enamel erosion is a long-term effect and seen only in severe cases. I got a terrible food poisoning a few years ago and threw up so much I had to get an IV line because I couldn’t even keep water down. My teeth weren’t “jacked up” afterwards. The enamel hadn’t eroded, and I didn’t look like a different person with comically large teeth.”
Without any official documentation to support the claims, the speculation surrounding Milligan’s dental transformation continues unabated.
Nevertheless, one thing is certain: Milligan has worked on his gap teeth, and throughout his lengthy acting career, there have been instances when his teeth appeared larger and whiter than usual.
That said, this doesn’t detract from his appeal as a handsome leading man. He has consistently exuded charisma, and his exceptional talent as an actor is well-documented through years of work.
Dustin Milligan is the guardian to two dogs with teeth conditions called canine malocclusion.
Milligan and his partner are animal lovers. Their social media confirms that they are the proud parents of two dogs named Darryl and Doug. The actor affectionately refers to them as their sons. Unfortunately, both Darryl and Doug suffer from a dental condition known as canine malocclusion, which involves abnormal tooth alignment where the teeth do not fit together properly. In their case, the lower teeth protrude in front of the upper teeth, a condition referred to as Class 3 malocclusion, commonly known as an underbite. Tragically, Darryl passed away on October 6, 2021. Following his loss, the actor paid tribute to his beloved dog and expressed his sorrow at being “thousands of miles and an ocean away” when his first son passed.
